FCHCC Extends Application Deadline for its 2017 Achieving the Dream Scholarship Program

April 17, 2017 – JACKSONVILLE, FL – The First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has extended the application deadline for students until May 31, 2017. The Achieving the Dream (ATD) Scholarship Program is available for students with Hispanic origin who want to pursue their college degrees. Over 25 years, the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (FCHCC) Community Development, Inc. has awarded scholarships to high school seniors and undergrad students of Hispanic origin living in Northeast Florida including Duval, Baker, St. Johns, Clay and Nassau counties.

Students can now apply for the 2017 ATD Scholarships. In 2016, FCHCC awarded 13 scholarships to admirable Hispanic students at the inaugural Hispanic Heritage Gala, celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and the Achieving the Dream scholarships award recipients.

The Achieving the Dream Scholarships awards will be distributed at the 2nd Annual Hispanic Heritage Gala to be held on Friday, September 29, 2017. Applications can be completed on the website fchcc.com/scholarship, and must be submitted by May 31, 2017, along with all required documents.

The scholarship program awards students who work hard and achieve academic excellence to start or continue their education. FCHCC Community Development Fund awards these scholarships based on primary criteria of financial need (30%) and academics (minimum GPA 3.0) (25%).  The remaining points are assessed based on a finalist interview, letters of recommendation, an essay, extracurricular activities, community involvement and honors/awards.

Contributions to the scholarship fund can also be made online. Previous years’ sponsors include: AT&T, Florida Blue, The Grainger Foundation, Everbank and Winn Dixie.
