The IT Field Technician is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of IT hardware, software, and network systems. This role focuses on ensuring the optimal performance and security of access control devices, CCTV systems, and other electronic components. The IT Field Technician will work closely with team members and external vendors to support and maintain the IT infrastructure, provide technical support to end-users, and ensure compliance with safety standards and operational procedures.




  1. Install and configure IT hardware and software: Perform physical installation and setup of IT hardware including computers, servers, access control devices, and surveillance cameras. Configure and program software applications and systems to meet organizational requirements.
  2. Network setup and maintenance: Plan, install, and maintain structured cabling (CAT5/6) for network infrastructure. Ensure proper configuration, connectivity, and performance of network devices including switches, routers, and access points.
  3. Surveillance systems management: Set up and maintain CCTV and access control systems, ensuring optimal placement, focusing, and operational efficiency. Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of surveillance equipment to ensure functionality and security.
  4. Technical support and troubleshooting: Provide technical support for IT systems and resolve hardware and software issues. Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning equipment, including replacing components and repairing wiring.
  5. Preventive and corrective maintenance: Perform planned preventive maintenance on IT and security systems to ensure they are operating efficiently. Execute corrective maintenance tasks, including cleaning, adjusting, and repairing devices as necessary.
  6. System integration and testing: Integrate and test various IT systems and components to ensure seamless operation. Conduct regular testing and verification of system functionality to identify and resolve potential issues.
  7. Documentation and compliance: Maintain detailed documentation of installations, configurations, maintenance activities, and repairs. Adhere to safety standards and operational procedures, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulations.
  8. Collaboration and coordination: Work closely with team members, other departments, and external vendors to coordinate IT projects and support activities. Assist in the administration and routine functions of communication systems, including coordinating with vendors for advanced support.
  9. User training and support: Provide training and support to end-users on IT systems and applications. Ensure users are proficient in operating installed hardware and software, and address any user-related issues promptly.
  10. IT security and safety: Implement and maintain security protocols to protect IT systems and data. Ensure a safe working environment by following safety guidelines and participating in safety training programs.


This position does not supervise employees.


Performs other duties as required or assigned.



  •  A minimum of 1 year of experience with structured cabling and fundamental network technologies is required.
  • Preferably 1-3 years of field experience in commercial CCTV IP video systems, access control systems, and low voltage electronics.


  • No specific certifications required, but relevant IT or network certifications are advantageous.


  • Comprehensive understanding of cabling concepts and installation techniques, including both copper and fiber optic cabling.
  • Strong proficiency with computer hardware, software applications, and operating systems.

 Skills Required:

  • Exceptional troubleshooting abilities to diagnose and resolve technical issues effectively.
  • Strong communication skills with a focus on customer service.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Comfort working in various environments, including outdoor settings, and performing tasks involving heights, such as using ladders, bucket trucks, and lifts.


  • Frequent travel between company locations.


  • Occasionally remain in a stationary position.
  • Constantly move, traverse inside office or on JAXPORT property to accomplish job duties.
  • Constantly operate, use or handle equipment, tools, computers and other office machinery.
  • Constantly ascend, descend, work atop, traverse on ladders, equipment and buildings to perform maintenance and safety functions.  Heights up to 200 feet.
  • Constantly position self to move, to maintain or repair equipment on terminal or in office.
  • Constantly detect, determine, identify, recognize, observe, inspect to read and use computers.
  • Frequently detect, converse with, convey, exchange information with others via radio, telephone.  Ability to listen to equipment to troubleshoot
  • Continuously move, transport and position, material up to 50 pounds and frequently up to 75 pounds.


Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Occasional outside work to include local transport for bus tours and travel between job sites.


  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • An Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred.
