Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the design, support, maintenance and evaluation of the computer networking system. Assists with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of both physical and virtual computer server environment.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Oversees the day-to-day operation of the computer network infrastructure, including hardware/software support.
  2. Plans, designs and implements data connectivity for local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) systems.
  3. Assists in coordinating special projects, including network related wiring plans, LAN/WAN hardware/software purchases, and system installation, backup, maintenance and problem solving.
  4. Assists in providing network and remote connectivity hardware/software support.
  5. Researches and recommends network and server hardware and software and new technologies related to computer networking.
  6. Designing, configure, install, and maintaining system hardware and software.
  7. Monitors usage to ensure security of data and access privileges. Also, analyzes network and system logs.
  8. Monitors network device and node health to ensure uptime and proactively addresses potential problems.
  9. Assists in planning, coordinating and consulting with vendors and clients for hardware/software purchases, product services and support. Recommends and specifies the purchase of related products and services.
  10. Keeps current regarding new hardware/software products for system enhancements.
  11. Creates and maintains documentation to include but not limited too system and network diagrams.

DIRECT REPORTS

This position does not supervise employees.

OTHER DUTIES
Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Skills

Experience:

  • A minimum of two years’ experience in design, support, and/or maintenance of computer networks required.
  • Hands-on computer and server hardware troubleshooting experience required.
  • Leadership experience helpful.
  • Must have experience in all types of network infrastructure to include fiber optics.

License/Certifications:  CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA) required.

Knowledge:

  • Basic knowledge of reverse engineering techniques and modern cryptographic and cryptanalysis techniques preferred.
  • Working technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems. CISCO IOS, Linux, and Microsoft Windows required.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and/or federal data privacy practices and laws.
  • Technical knowledge of current network hardware protocols and standards.
  • Knowledge of software such as JunOS, EOS, WireShark, VMWare, Proxmox, XEN, Containers(LXC) etc. preferred.

Skills Required:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to customer service working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to prioritize requests, organize, schedule and coordinate a variety of activities and projects in a high pressure environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with analytical and problem-solving approach.
  • Ability to conduct research into networking issues and products and present ideas in a user-friendly language.
  • Implementation and configuration of CISCO routers & switches.

Travel:  Frequent travel between company locations within Jacksonville.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver license is required and must be maintained during employment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) during employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequently remain in a stationary position.
  • Frequently move, traverse inside office or on JAXPORT property to accomplish job duties.
  • Frequently operate, use or handle equipment, tools, computers and other office machinery.
  • Rarely/Never ascend, descend, work atop, traverse on ladders, equipment and buildings to perform maintenance and safety   functions. Heights up to 200 feet.
  • Rarely/Never position self to move, to maintain or repair equipment on terminal or in office.
  • Frequently detect, determine, identify, recognize, observe, inspect to read and use computers.
  • Frequently detect, converse with, convey, exchange information with others via radio, telephone. Ability to listen to equipment to troubleshoot.
  • Continuously move, transport and position, material up to 10 pounds, frequently up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Office environment or local travel for meetings or functions.

Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems required.
  • Related work experience may be substituted for educational requirements: four years of related experience for a Bachelor’s degree or six years for a Master’s degree, provided that the candidate possesses the necessary qualifications and skills for the position.
