President's Message
Hello friends,
I trust that you are enjoying your summer and spending quality time with those you love. My heart remains heavy as I think about the families in Orlando who have lost loved ones recently and will never share another summer with a partner, mother, brother, sister, child or friend. It shouldn't make a difference that most of those lost in the Orlando massacre were Hispanic, specifically Puerto Ricans, but somehow that brings it closer to my heart. I am so deeply sorry that this loss of life occurred and pray that we will use this tragedy to remind us how important it is to LOVE while we are here no matter who you love because the only thing you can take with you is that LOVE. Please continue to pray for and support our "gente" in Orlando and the many others who are affected by senseless loss every day all around the world. ♥
If you have not renewed your FCHCC membership or want to join, click here for more information.
Warmest regards,
Maribel Hernandez

Central Florida Groups Unite to Help Hispanic Community after Orlando Mass Shooting
June 11th marked a tragic day in Orlando, Florida when 49 people were murdered at the Pulse club and over 90% of the victims were Hispanic. Indeed our world is changing and not always for good. But, in lieu of this tragedy, the city of Orlando has come together to help all those affected.
Over 30 Central Florida community groups, including our sister chamber, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando, have united as "Somos Orlando" to help the Hispanic community following the shootings at Pulse nightclub. As the night of the attack was Latin Night, many of the victims are of Hispanic descent, and Somos Orlando has pledged to provide support, information, and access to resources to the local Hispanic community. Click here for more information.
Also, the City of Orlando in partnership with Orange County Government, has opened the Orlando United Assistance Center (OUAC) to serve as a navigation point to assess the needs, provide information, support and resources to those directly affected by the Pulse tragedy.
FCHCC offers our support and sincere condolences to everyone who was affected.

FCHCC Rolls Out New Member Benefits Estimados Miembros,
2016 has been a great year for the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (FCHCC) and our great city of Jacksonville. To ensure our organization continues to evolve according to our member needs, fast growing Hispanic population and an ever changing economy, we have revised our membership benefits. We have streamlined the look and feel of our benefits and adjusted some pricing to better reflect our current economic climate. We are thrilled about our bright future and look forward to an exciting second half of the year.
Major changes include added member benefits, reduction in strategic partnership level, addition of multi-year discounts, membership levels based on benefits and not based on the business size and unlimited associates at certain membership levels who would get individual membership cards for member-only discounts and entrance to networking events at no cost. Click here to learn more!

Member Spotlight: Cesar Grijota, VyStar Credit Union
Cesar Javier Grijota, born in Cadiz, Spain has been a proud Jacksonville resident since first arriving to the United States in 1991. He was raised by a single mother of three and they were faced with the many challenges of learning a new language and culture, yet she taught Cesar to never feel like they were at a disadvantage.
In addition to the unwavering work ethic and extraordinary perseverance modeled by his mother, she instilled the profound discipline and value of being financially responsible. It is no surprise to see that Cesar has been a strong advocate and supporter of the Credit Union movement for most of his professional career.
Locally educated at Florida State College of Jacksonville and the University of North Florida, Cesar was able to attain his Bachelor's degree in Business Management, being one of the first in his family's history to attain a college education. Over the past 10 years, Cesar has proudly represented VyStar Credit Union, a Non-profit Cooperative serving 21 counties across Northeast Florida, where he currently serves as the Vice President of the Kernan Branch.
As this relationship blossomed, Cesar was given the opportunity to serve as a volunteer of the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in late 2011. He has served on and chaired several committees since then and has a keen focus on serving his community anyway that he can. Cesar has a profound passion for helping people instilled by his upbringing and highlighted by his credit union background. He is equally passionate about serving to promote the success of Hispanic professionals and Hispanic-owned businesses in Jacksonville.
In 2015, Cesar was elected to serve as Vice Chairman of the Board for the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce where he proudly serves today. Contact Cesar at grijotac@vystarcu.org. |
