Voces Hispanas: New Stories to Tell Event (Recap)

The City of Jacksonville hosted the 2023 Voces Hispanas “New Stories to Tell” event to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month on September 18, 2023 sponsored by the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

FCHCC and Voces Hispanas created a travel museum quality exhibit honoring Hispanic leaders of NE Florida who have made significant contributions to the Hispanic community over the past several decades. This exhibit brings the vision of Voces Hispanas Founder, Dr. Rebecca Dominguez-Karimi to life.

Monica Hernandez Opened at the Jax Historical Society Speaker Series meeting

Monica Hernandez, FCHCC President opened the Jax Historical Society Speaker Series meeting Oct. 14th & expressed her gratitude to them for promoting diversity and inclusion within the Hispanic and non-Hispanic community.

Congratulations to Dr. Rebecca Dominguez-Karimi for her work on Voces de Hispanos: Jacksonville’s Hispanic Heritage. A true honor to all who participated in this project and whose story will leave a legacy for the future generations. The FCHCC is proud to promote this type of initiatives that show the cultural diversity of our community.

DuPont Middle School unveils mural in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Alfred I. duPont Middle School unveiled on Tuesday a mural showcasing Hispanic heritage, painted by a Jacksonville-area artist.

The message: To make all students feel accepted.

“It meant so much to me. I wanted to make it as beautiful as possible,” said artist Whitney Esther Perez.

Perez said the Duval County School District asked her to submit a concept sketch and then she was chosen to take on the project. She said she put her heart and soul into the painting.

The mural was unveiled at an event hosted by the Jacksonville Jaguars Foundation, Alfred I. duPont Middle School, First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville and the Art in Public Places Program.
