For Immediate Release: (JACKSONVILLE, FL. – April 28, 2016) The Achieving the Dream (ATD) Scholarships return to inspire Hispanic students to earn their college degrees. The scholarship program awarded by the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (FCHCC) Community Development, Inc., is available to high school seniors and undergrad students of Hispanic descent that live in Northeast Florida including Duval, Baker, St. Johns, Clay and Nassau counties. Students are encouraged to apply for the 2016 ATD Scholarships starting April 29 through June 3.
Last year, FCHCC awarded 16 scholarships to deserving Hispanic students at the annual Achieving the Dream Scholarship Awards luncheon. Some of these students attend the University of Florida, Florida State University, University of North Florida, Jacksonville University and the University of South Florida to name a few. The scholarships are awarded up to $2,500 per student based on the ATD Scholarship criteria including financial need, transcripts, essay, recommendation letters and interview.
“For many Hispanics, achieving the dream of a college education remains an unrealized dream due to economic factors. We are pleased to be able to provide this opportunity to deserving students,” said Maribel Hernandez, President & CEO.
The Achieving the Dream Scholarships will be awarded at the Hispanic Heritage Gala to be announced at a later date. Open applications are available to all students of Hispanic origin, from Northeast Florida, who will at least be a college freshman during the fall term 2016. The application requires a 250-word essay and proof of enrollment or pending enrollment at an accredited college or university pursuing an undergrad degree only. Applications can be completed on fchcc.com, and must be submitted by June 3, 2016, along with all required documents.
Interested applicants are encouraged to check the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s website for additional scholarship requirements and to be added to the distribution list for notifications. Applications can be found online at www.fchcc.com. Contributions to the scholarship fund can also be made online.
