For Immediate Release: September 7, 2017 – JACKSONVILLE, FL – The First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is celebrating 25 years of service to Hispanic and non-Hispanic businesses in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. As a growing organization, the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (FCHCC) is positively impacting the regional economy by creating value, promoting and facilitating the success of their devoted members and by engaging the community at large. A 25th Anniversary celebration took place at Havana JAX on September 1, 2017, to appreciate past and present members (photos below).
In 1992, a small group of Hispanic business leaders undertook the task of unifying the Hispanic business community. The Hispanic American Business Association (HABA) was formed and immediately began to advocate for Hispanic business and to promote the region’s rich Hispanic culture and heritage. The organization was renamed the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (FCHCC) in early 2003.
The FCHCC has grown to include individual, corporate, and nonprofit members. In 2005, the FCHCC instituted a Trustee Program for larger corporations and organizations interested in significant and substantial support of Hispanic in business, who are shaping the local, state, and national economies.
FCHCC welcomes all business professionals, both Hispanic and non-Hispanic, to become involved with the Chamber and foster an understanding of Hispanic heritage through an array of networking events, educational workshops, promotional opportunities for businesses, and the “Achieving the Dream” Scholarship Program.
Cesar Grijota, President and CEO, has served with the chamber since 2011 and this year elected into his current leadership role. He states, “I feel honored to have the opportunity to represent the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce as it celebrates its 25th year anniversary. 25 years of serving Hispanic businesses in Northeast Florida. Over 10 years of providing scholarships to deserving and hard-working Hispanic students, many of which are DACA recipients and represent the 800,000 dreamers hoping to make their dreams a reality. We have a lot more work to do, but for the past 25 years the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has made a great impact and there is much to celebrate for that success!”
Their signature event, the Hispanic Heritage Gala and Achieving the Dream Scholarship Awards (Gala), takes place on September 29 to celebrate the rich Hispanic culture, and award the deserving Hispanic students at this annual event. The Gala is presented by Virginia College.
